Dead Poets Society

Dead Poets Society (1989), definitely one of the best movies I've seen in years. The story is about a teacher (Robin Williams), which uses his own approach to teaching, while telling his students that they have to make the most of their daily lives. There is an opportunity that awaits us every day and we must decide whether to take the chance or simply play safe.

Carpe diem!

I can’t write much on the subject, as I have an exam tomorrow (programming!). Well, I’ll leave you here a poem by Robert Herrick (1591-1674).

To the Virgins,
Make Much of Time

Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old time is still a-flying,
And this same flower that smiles today,
To-morrow will be dying.

The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun,
The higher he's a-getting,
The sooner will his race be run,
And nearer he's to setting.

That age is best which is the first,
When youth and blood are warmer;
But being spent, the worse and worst
Times still succeed the former.

Then be not coy, but use your time,
and while ye may, go marry;
For having lost just once your prime,
You may for ever tarry.

A Malaysian Go website!

Finally! The Malaysian Weiqi Association has managed to come up with a website! I've been waiting for one since last year! Anyway, the link is here!

Frankly, the layout isn't bad at all. Way to go for Malaysian Go! (it kinda rhymes). Anyway, I found out a lot of stuff about Malaysian Go. It turns out they have a new place somewhere in MineIT City, in which I have no idea where that is. Not to mention that it opens every day! Man, does that sound like a Go salon to you? Indeed it does! :D

Enough said, I can't wait to get back. Better brush up my skills before I go meet these people. :)

Harry Potter 3

Ah, finally, after nearly 5 days of breakdown, I had to move the site to another web server. I don't know what's wrong with Time Server, but I just can't log in. But what do you expect? This happens whenever you're using a free webserver.

Anyway, I went to see Harry Potter 3, and it was, erm, how should I put it, 'quite okay'. As a Harry Potter fan (me? unbelievable!), I didn't expect them to chuck out so much stuff, and not to mention they even changed a little bit of the story line.

Things that were changed

1. The dementors that attacked Harry during his quidditch game.
It was suppose to be a scam by Malfoy.
2. The broom given to Harry was suppose to be in the middle of the
story. Instead, in the movie, it appeared at the very end.

Things that were not explained in the movie

1. Who were Paddy, Padfoot, and Wormtail?
2. How did the Shrieking Shack got its name?
3. Why did Harry saw a stag across the lake (with all the dementors)?
4. How, or why did Sirius became an animagus?
5. How did Sirius escaped from Azkaban?
6. Why did Lupin said "I know what this is" about the Maurader's Map?

Ah well, maybe the producer thought that it's gonna be really long to include all this. But one thing I'm really impressed is the Patronus charm. When reading the book, I had a rather different impression of how it'd look like. Nevertheless, in the movie, the charm sure was cool.

Final week of lecture ends!

Greetings. It's been a while since I last blogged. It's not that I'm busy, just lazy. Anyway, I went to see The Punisher yesterday. It was quite okay. Basically it's all about killing people. lol. Oh yes, by the way, a pro came yesterday to the Go club, but I didn't go. Again, I'm just lazy. Yoshi said in his email to us saying that please don't ask the pro for games, as she[sic] is here for holidays. So I decided not to go, and let the women enjoy her holidays. lol. I bet everybody at the club was busy asking her for games.

Ah, this is my final week of lectures, next week's gonna be a study break, and the exams. After all that, I can go back to Malaysia. Not that I enjoy the heat there, but I kinda miss the food. :)
